Sentenced: The Funeral Album
I waited for this album with a great deal of anticipation after the incredibly soulful, and sometimes almost haunting, Crimson and The Cold White Light. The band has stated that The Funeral Album will be their last album and when their last tour is over, Sentenced will be no more.
Its a pity really, the music, songwriting, soothing and somewhat melancholic vocal style of Crimson is what got me hooked on the Gothic Metal style of bands recently. That said, The Funeral Album was a bit of a dissapointment. It seems to show that the band decided to split before stepping into the recording studio. The whole of the album seems a bit more crude and thrown together than any of their previous works.
Overall, it is good, but it seems to lack the feeling that the previous albums had. Its not up to their standards and its probably not an album I’ll listen to over and over. I’ll add it into one of my playlists that gets randomized.
I know a lot of people hate it when reviewers compare new albums with previous works. I don’t care, I’m not a reviewer that gets paid for my opinion — I’m a fan. This one just doesn’t seem to seem to justice to the bands talent. The Funeral Album is for die hard Sentenced fans only, no pun intended.
